The Transmission System Operators Ensure Security And Stability Of Our Power Supply

As a result of expansion of renewables, the power grid has been undergoing major changes, and the necessary interventions to ensure reliability of supply have gone up not only at national level. The restructuring of networks is a long-drawn but necessary process for the responsible grid operators. It has, among other things, consequences for the asset management. The requirements for handling the system services such as voltage and frequency control, operational management and system restoration keep changing consistently. This, in turn, calls for complete reworking of the grid development. Slogans like System balancing, REDISPATCH, information and communication technology (ICT), digitalization, phase-shifter or network booster are changing the operational business of transmission operators. Not only in the areas of system management and grid operation. The requirements at the European level necessitate setting up fixed structures in compliance monitoring.

Our "Electrical Grids" department has set itself the task of actively shaping this change in the electricity grids.

We therefore actively support the work of transmission system operators through our current research projects, software tools like INTEGRAL (needs-based grid optimization), InterAss or the redispatch optimization platform, as well as comprehensive system studies.

At the same time, we involve ourselves in various international committees and working groups with the aim of developing framework conditions and solutions for the power grid of the future.
